My motivation to start Genero came after managing a branch of a large national audio visual supplier and always having an ambition to have my own business. I noticed a gap in the Welsh event market for a company that not only supplies equipment but provides a full event service. That was almost 20 years ago now and the motivation still burns strong.
I would like to think as the MD of Genero I recognise that people are key to the organisation’s strength and I always encourage the staff to be the best at what they do. I believe I empower them to succeed through individual performance and team work.
The best part of running this business is the reward of providing a service to be proud of. Developing, growing and striving forward through the ups and downs but most of all, Genero has been started from scratch and to see where the journey has reached so far makes me immensely proud.
I manage a great team of techs and use a lot of different equipment in my job, so my favourite thing to do is to make sure everything and everyone is organised! I have a road bike, so in my spare time I love cycling and walking to some brilliant places, easy to do when you live on the beautiful South Wales coast. I’m always happy when I’m cooking and having BBQs with family and friends, I love living life to the full.
One of my favourite aspects of my job is winning new business and delivering super successful events! Having worked in the theatre, exhibitions and live events industry for over 30 years now, I would say I’m a self-confessed ‘Production Guru’. When not in work, I love cooking and gardening, especially with a glass of Caribbean rum in hand, taking inspiration from my recent visit to Jamaica!
I am very productive with my work and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment that comes with an empty inbox at the end of the day! I love seeing the photographs of Genero’s work on social media, as I would not be able to see it usually and some jobs have been quite spectacular! In my spare time, I enjoy going to gigs the most, but that only happens a few times a year (as I’m also a busy Mum), so I fill in some weekends watching non-kid’s films at the cinema. I also love the gym and doing up my house. I think I would make a lousy decorator though!
The part of my job which I find most enjoyable is entertaining and delighting customers and clients. I would describe myself as the company’s chief ‘Tea Maker’, everyone loves my cuppas! Outside of work, one of my favourite things to do is beat MD, Peter Leckie, at golf.
I have always loved being in the events industry, building relationships with clients and seeing the success of what comes from that. It is fab to be part of such a creative, innovative and FUN events agency! Having recently started this role at Genero, I have enjoyed planning an exciting year ahead of creative activity to introduce new clients to Genero! When not in work, looking after 4 kids keeps me busy; I enjoy chilling out in the garden with a huge fire and a big glass of wine! Ahhhh and… relax!
As they say, variety is the spice of life and this industry absolutely provides that. The cliché is that no day is ever the same, but that is 100% true when it comes to events. There are not many industries that encourage personal expression more; events give me the wings to fly. I love that events make people happy, that’s inspiring for me. The sense of fulfilment makes me want to do more - it’s very addictive.
The team call me Inferno, it works because events are my absolute passion and I love creating ones that stand out! When I’m not in work, I go on holidays. I live for travelling and going out for yummy dinners. Tapas with a Rioja and Thai with a Sangsom (yum, yum, rum) are my faves!
As Accounts Manager, I really thrive on resolving customer issues, ensuring they have a positive experience with Genero. Having worked here for 13 years, I would definitely describe myself as ‘Part of the Furniture’! I have a horse called Keegan, who is very relaxing to be around, so I spend a lot of my spare time at the stables with my daughters. I love house music, so my husband and I jet off to Ibiza when we get the chance!
Each day in this job brings something different, no two days are the same – except for the staff, they stay the same and they are great to work with! The grown up side of me enjoys cooking, going to concerts/theatre and a good cup of tea. The slightly younger side of me cannot get enough of Harry Potter; I listen to the audiobooks all the time and have recently built the Hogwarts Castle out of Lego.
One of the best parts of my job is seeing a project develop from enquiry to final show set up! It brings a great satisfaction when we work hard on a project and it is a success. When not in work I enjoy spending time with my family. We have recently become a family of four, so I’m kept pretty busy with a toddler and a new born!
As Creative and Design Exec, it’s exciting to design something right from the beginning and then watch it be built and delivered to create a bespoke environment. I love watching something that was just an idea in my head become a huge visual focal point for an event. I would describe my role as ‘All Things Design’; it really is a passion of mine. Outside of work I really enjoy cooking and eating all cuisines, I’m a massive foodie.
What I enjoy about my role are the people I get to work with, making every day more enjoyable. My role also gives me the brilliant opportunity to travel across the country. Aside from work, I love sport. I’m a keen rugby player and really enjoy going to support Cardiff City FC when they play. My family and friends are really important to me, so spending time with them is my favourite thing to do.
I love the fast pace of the industry and the challenge of ensuring each job is prepped and ready on time to leave the warehouse. When I’m not working, I really enjoy playing bass guitar, I’m also guilty of a Netflix binge-watching session – I love a good series!
I love that this role allows me to go forth and be creative with my writing. I also get a kick out of securing coverage for the business; Genero has a lot to shout about! My work nickname is ‘Hashtag’, as I manage our social media and may get carried away with hashtags sometimes… When not in work, I enjoy eating anything smothered in Marmite. Exercise is really important to me so when I’m not scoffing my face with Marmite, you’ll find me in the gym trying to burn off those Marmite-related calories. Same with red wine.
The best thing about my job is that there is something different to do every day, I love the variety! If I had to make up a job title for myself, so far it would be aspiring carpenter – I am really loving what I am learning in this role. While not in work, I enjoy being with my family and watching the rugby with a pint!
